Hello and greetings to all,
Wow such lovely days in NS lately, ice on the lakes, and the skies are a lovely heather. Training has been ramped up as of late to gear up for the increased intensity and volume of national team training camp which is coming soon. We've made the shift to muscle endurance, shifting the weight training to higher reps and more circuit style practices. The running we've been doing is also been really solid as of late, and I have been feeling like my fitness is really improving across the board. This afternoon I went and took part in an atypical Cheema off-season training session, referred to as "Rocky Weights". It's truly like nothing else, and if you really go for it, can leave you sore for days. Great training though.
After our Friday afternoon session, brother Ben and I got in the car, exhausted and ready to head home. However, we made a slightly naive move in parking at the bottom of the ice covered hill beside Cheema, despite many others wisely parking above and walking down. Needless to say, after taking 15 runs at it, between Ben, Jon Pike and myself, the dumping of sand and salt, we were quickly put to shame by one Genevieve Orton, who made it up in her first try. Very fitting, huh?
In my brain full or random sports thoughts, these days rumours of Shawn Marion heading to TO and subsequent departure of one Jermaine "I make way more cash than I deserve" O'Neal, the upcoming off-season for the San Diego Chargers, and of course the local sports angles available at www.thetrickplay.com. Anyway, that's all I got for you. Keep the "ask us anything" questions coming, and of course...
Keep it real!
Cheers,
Andrew
Greetings to all,
And to all a very happy new year. Alas, the time for resolutions and resolve is upon us, everything that is old is new again, and everyone has a chance to make 2009 a great year, (with the exception of me growing back my once luscious head of hair).
I began with a much needed tidying of my room, and plans to train very hard through the month of January leading into the warm weather national team training camp in February. My big resolution on the training front is to diligently stretch, and prevent my body from being in a semi- permanent state of stiffness, hamstrings especially.
In other news I promised myself before sitting down to write this, that I would save this important tidbit till the end, but I can simply not contain my excitement. The San Diego "Super Chargers" led by Mighty Mouse 5"6 Darren Sproles are headed to the AFC semi-finals after a brilliantly exciting wild card game against the Indianapolis Colts. Self-admitted I care way too much about the outcome of Chargers games, but what can you do.
I will end with my list of things to accomplish in 2009:
1) Practice French like a madman so I'll be able to live up to an ill-advised bet
2) Stretch
3) Indulge in more good books and music (I go in spurts)
4) Try not to look like I am out of stroke with Gab in C-2 because I have one of the most ridiculous hip motions in paddling (not a compliment). Improve the technique.
5) Have a good showing at the world championships in Dartmouth in August
6) Return to Hawaii for the Molokai Hoe to endure the amazing pain of that 76 km cross ocean beast once more. I said leaving Hawaii I would need a few years away from it, but a month afterwards I'd been craving that race already.
Once again all the best in the new year, keep it real, and go after those things you want to accomplish.
Andrew
