Where could a paddler get a good block?
C4C is officially supplied with perfectly cut blocks by Tamas Buday Sr. He is in our
estimation the best block cutter in the world. It is not to hard to cut a block
yourself, the easiest way is to trace your knee onto the top of the block and then
use a hack saw blade held by your two hands to gradually cut away a groove for your knee.
Be careful and go slow!
But where do you get the physical block. The best source is probably Tamas Sr., Ask your
coach if they can contact Tamas to send you one. Or look for some high density foam
in your area and go in on a whole big block of it with your friends.
Finally, once you have your sweet new block take the extra time to attach it firmly to
your boat. Your knee pressing against your block is the main way that your boat moves
forward, so any slipping or movement of your block in the boat will cost you forward
boat movement and make your boat off balance.
