Greetings all,
The first day of the world championships in Poznan has now come and gone. It was a gusty day which made for some really exciting and interesting races.
Evening,
Just a quick note before I call it a night. This aft we had another hard one, and did hard running laps at a soccer field associated with the French omni-sport training centre. After some adept fence hops, we did 1,2,3,2,1 hard laps with 1 easy lap inbetween hard efforts. Afterwards it was on to an easier paddle to flush, and a few stretches before dinner. I have been really trying to stay loose and keep from getting tight or sore during this harder week of training leading towards our peak.
Hello all,
Greetings from France. Things have been continuing in the right direction for training, and I am feeling stronger and adjusted more each day. This morning Gab and I did 4 times 2 km on 12 minute starts. It was a nice aerobic session, without too crazy an intensity. Yesterday afternoon our teammate Adam van Koeverden arrived, and in impressive fashion this morning showed off both his K-1 and C-1 prowess.
Hey Greetings,
Things are looking up in Temple. We arrived in this quaint southern France training centre on Sunday evening, and have enjoyed good meals, smooth water, and some quality training since.
Greetings all,
I'll keep this short and sweet.
After a couple of appeals the men's canoe discipline for this year's world championships is much more complete.
Greetings all,
I had a blast in Dartmouth, NS where I just spent one week amongst family and friends, training on Banook Lake, and taking a bit of recovery. The recent national team trials was the final stage of the qualification process for Gabriel and myself for the world championships in Poznan, Poland. We had a tough race against brother Ben and Richard Dalton, but managed to find another gear in the final 200m to win the race. This race was a great challenge for Gab and I because I think it helped prove to us that we’re ready to compete this season, and that we have the hunger necessary to win tough races. It was a challenging situation having to race against my brother Benny, but I think we both handled a less than ideal situation well, and were able to keep the stress and tension that comes with racing big races to a minimum.
Greetings all,
It's been a while since my last blog, and in my absence I've managed to keep pretty busy. I stood as best man to my good friend Patrick White, I put in a few hours at my other job, and had a great stay in Nova Scotia overall.
I've been training in Ottawa now for the past week, and it's been a really positive experience. The C-2 has been moving really well, and I think I may be starting to find a little more connection and rhythm in my stroke which is definitely a nice feeling.
Greetings all,
Day 1 in Szeged, Hungary is in the books, and Gab and I are coming away with a A final berth in the C-2 1000m. It was a tough first heat for us, we were working fairly hard, but treated to some fast action on either side of us, and ended up finishing in fourth place. The semi was a tough one and we finished third to snag the last spot in the final. Honestly, any time you are able to get into an A final at this stage you have got to be pretty happy with the result. I believe that anything can happen once you get in the final, but usually it requires your best effort to get in.
Greetings all,
We have been in Szeged now since Monday afternoon, and I'm getting closer to being not so badly jetlagged. The course is looking great as usual, and the usual day before the world cup crowd has arrived. The paddling course was super full of paddlers this morning all getting accustomed to the starting gates, prepping their sprints, or doing whatever it is they do before the races. Gab and I feeling a bit fatigued did a couple of thousands, one with some near race pace work, and then a few pick-ups after during a fairly lengthy cool down.
Greetings all,
Back in Dartmouth, and loving life. I have really enjoyed being back at home for the last couple of days now, training again on Banook Lake, and getting to catch up with my club teammates. Gab is arriving in tonight, and we will be back in the C-2 tomorrow rain... or shine.
