Flatwater Canoe/Kayak World Championships - Day 2

Hey everyone,

"Flatwater" Canoe/Kayak World Championships - Day 1

Greetings from Poland!

The first day Worlds just finished up with the completion of the 1000m heats and semis. "Flatwater" is in quotations because it was anything but flat today in Poznan. This course has a tendency to get pretty wavy if there is any wind and today was no exception. The heats were bad, with the second half of the race being pretty much a surfing competition. The semis were worse. But, we do an outdoor sport and that is part of the game.

I had a good day, winning my heat and coming third in my semi to qualify for the final on Saturday. Both races I went out hard because I knew the first half of the course was a lot nicer. My semi came down to a race for third between me and Mathieu Goubel of France, who I have been training with for the last two weeks. I was well ahead, trying to just finish without sinking or going out of my lane when he made a late charge and almost caught me. Luckily I saw him coming and had enough to hold him off. It's dissapointing that he won't be in the final with me on Saturday, as I was looking forward to another good battle with him like we did in our workouts, and in flat conditions he was one of the favourites to medal.

In a similar situation was good friend Adam vanKoeverden, who missed some strokes at the end due to some massive waves and just missed the final. It really sucks to see someone(especially a close friend) who clearly deserves to be in the final miss out because of bad conditions, and my heart goes out to him. I know he'll bounce back and rock the 500 tomorrow though, and I'm sure everyone knows that he is still one of the very best in the world.

In other results, Gab and Aruss looked rock solid in both their heat and semi and advanced to the final. I'm looking forward to their final, as I know they are both really ready to bring it! Our C4 also advanced to the final making it three for three for our Canoe Team. Some nice paddling was also done by Goose and Steve in K2, who advanced to the B final, nice work guys. Our K4 of Connor, Mehak, Rhys and Brady looked strong against some very tough competition and also made it to the B. Nice to see Burloak teammates Brady and Mehak doing the creek proud.

Of course if you want full results, you can check out the official results here:

Alright, that's all for today! Time to fuel up and get some rest for tomorrow, 500s here we come! Thanks for reading and keep your paddle in the water!

Second World Cup and Home!

Good day!
I have arrived home from Europe safe and sound after what turned out to be quite a successful World Cup season. After Hungary we headed straight for Germany for our second race, the third World Cup in Duisburg. Racing started friday but only included one race for me, my C1 1000m heat. There were less entries than at our first race, so the top three in our heat advanced directly to the final. I had a good solid race and placed second, with lots more in the tank for the final. Friday night the 200m finals took place and I had a great time watching our 200 team tear it up! Nice work guys.

World Cup Adventures

Hello!

Well yesterday was a great but also interesting day here at the World Cup in Hungary. My C1 1000m was great and I ended up with a bronze medal! It rained all morning for the 200m heats but cleared up at lunch time and the course was absolutely beautiful, the water was like glass and the temperature was perfect. I was out in lane 1 so I was a bit lonely but it worked out well because I was able to do my own thing. I rocked the start and maintained a nice pace in the middle, sitting in third almost the whole way. I was moving at the end but came up a little short of silver and gold, but was still really happy with my race overall. I'm excited to really go for it next weekend and see if I can improve my result! Congrats to Adam on his gold and silver day, he was awesome! Lots of other great results from Canada as well, nice work team. Looking forward to some more great races today!

VIDEO!

Check out the video of my C1 1000m race from Trials! I added some music and some effects to make it less boring, as it was a bit monotonous, so I hope you like it!

Hanging out in Ottawa

I'm back in O-town for a few days before heading over to the World Cups. Because we race again so soon we don't get much downtime after Trials, so it's back on the water training hard as usual. I did get a chance to get out on the links with Jamie and Ian to play some golf though! It was a nice relaxing afternoon and a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been having.

Success

Hey everyone!
Well yesterday went much better than Saturday at Trials for me!

National Team Trials Day 1

Well I just finished racing my first day of trials, and I was done before noon! Usually being finished that early would mean you were eliminated, but this year the first day was 200m races, so they put the heats, semis and finals all in the morning. It was an interesting morning for me. My heat wasn't great, and then my semi was a bit better but not my best. I just didn't feel very solid or sharp, plus the wind was creating a challenge as well. My final was better, but I made a few mistakes that cost me second place.

Ottawa!

I was back in Ottawa this week to attend my last week of class. It was a busy few days finishing off all my assignments, but now I'm done and just have to study for a couple exams. I'm in the airport now headed back to Florida, but with the weather in Canada right now I'm wondering why I'm bothering to go back at all! Yesterday was absolutely beautiful, and I was looking out the window wishing I had my boat with me so I could go paddling. The river looked nice, a bit of current but it was over 20 degrees and sunny! And today is even warmer, and is calling for 25 degrees!

FLORIDA!

Greetings!GorillasGorillas
We are well into our Spring Training Camp down in Florida, and it's finally starting to heat up. The weather has been a little chilly but temperatures rose just in time for the 7th Annual Yak for a Stack!
