The Mission And Some Hobbit Wisdom

Check out the first C4C journal entry. Read up on our goals for the site and the road ahead.

It's a dangerous business going out of your door, You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet,There is no knowing where you might be swept off to.

Welcome to our brand new web site. Conceived of in September, inspired by Adam V’s site and made possible solely by the expertise of webmaster supreme Geoff Clarke, Canoe4Canada.com is up and running. Our overall idea for the web site was to create an easy way for friends, relatives, sponsors and all the Canadian Canoeing fans to stay up to date on what we get up to when we are away, how our training is going and get a more personal perspective on the day to day reality of training for a shot at the Olympic team. With this purpose in mind, it is perfect timing that we can start posting just as we head off for our three month stint in Florida, which will culminate in the all important Olympic team trials in Georgia in early May. This time will be a test for everyone on the National Team and a challenge for all of us as we try to work harder and smarter than we ever have before. The goal all of us have is simple; to be the best we can be on a given race day (in our case Olympic Trials May 3rd and 4th), a goal that so many athletes can relate to. Yet the answer to the question, “How will I make sure I am my best on those given race days?” is anything but simple, and the training strategies and approaches athletes take vary wildly. Yet one thing is constant, experience counts. Paddling is a wise man’s (or women’s) game and it takes a smart approach to be successful. I personally rely heavily on the acquired wisdom and years of experience that my coaches and team mates have, and their readiness to share its lessons with me. In discussion about our web site we wanted to incorporate some sort of interaction with other athletes, with the hope that we could forge a positive way in which our shared experience could help younger athletes. It was with this added goal in mind that we incorporated the “Ask us Anything” section. Our hope is that along with the slew of questions from Cuthbert about his personal life we will get questions from young (or old) athletes that we can do our best to answer and open up a dialogue about training and racing. Beyond just the “Ask us Anything” section, it is our intention that our personal journals will give younger athletes a look at just how fun and exciting it is to be a national team athlete and how attitude and your approach to training can make all the difference. For it was a shared excitement just to be training and racing that made us 4 such good friends back in 2001 and it is still the same shared love of paddling and being our very best that make us all excited to be heading back to Florida this weekend. I hope you enjoy the site and send us your feedback.
P.S. I will not be this serious all the time, so I hope you enjoyed my sincerity.
